Therapy and counselling provide a safe, confidential and supportive environment in which to build on your strengths to create the changes you need.
You may feel under stress, suffer from panic attacks or phobias, or have particular emotional or relationship problems you feel need sorting out. These may be affecting your confidence, mood, and ability to cope. These issues may be to do with the present or sometimes more to do with past difficult experiences that may stem from childhood (and so the past is still ‘contaminating the present’).
A counsellor/therapist is like a catalyst, or trigger for change. Sometimes we are the victim of our own belief system, or our past, that can blind us to other ways of looking at the issues. A counsellor can help you look at those issues with new perspectives. They may even offer some guidance - although of course they cannot do the changing for you. The aim is for counselling to be a supportive place while we explore issues together and ways of addressing them.
It is also about self-awareness, coming to understand yourself better. So instead of feelings and behaviour being a mystery there is more self-acceptance and a better relationship with yourself.
It is natural, healthy and a positive step to seek help when you can’t sort things out on your own. Far from being a sign of weakness, it is a sign of strength.
You can:-
- Deal with problems, challenges, relationships
- Feel more in control of your life
- Establish goals and have a clearer sense of direction
- Increase your confidence and sense of well-being
