My approach is technically known as integrative. More specifically it is a humanistic approach that leans on psychodynamic, transactional analysis and cognitive theories. In practice it means I use a number of approaches depending on what seems appropriate for the particular client. It involves looking at the present problems (what is going on at the moment) and at underlying issues (that may relate to early messages you took on board about the world, relationships, and how you ‘should’ be). The aim is for you to understand yourself better, to make changes to your life that are more productive and rewarding, and to help you move towards becoming the kind of person you want to be.
This approach has developed from my own training, my later work as a senior tutor on counselling and therapy courses, my extensive work with counselling organisations and, most of all, my work with hundreds of clients since 1985. It has also been shaped by my life experiences and my own personal journey as a client in therapy.
Session length and my fees
Sessions are 50 minutes and are weekly. We will agree a session time that is convenient for you and you will have this same allotted appointment time each week for as long as you want it.
My fee is £60 per session in Bromley (£45 in Aylsham), payable at the end of each session (please note I do not take credit cards). If you are not able to keep an appointment (for example if you are on holiday or ill) a half-fee of £30 (£22 in Aylsham) is still payable. The reason for this is that, in common with many psychotherapists, I see people on a weekly basis at the appointment time they have agreed with me. In the same way, your own appointment time is specifically for you and cannot be filled by anyone else if you do not attend.
